Hi, I’m Vivek Rajan.

vivek rajan
I’m an Art of Living Happiness Program teacher, and I work as a software engineer in the Greater Boston area.

Before I was introduced to meditation, I had no idea how to deal with my negative emotions and thoughts. A close friend of mine introduced me to the Happiness Program in 2006 that taught me powerful breathing techniques, meditation and practical wisdom to deal with my life situations and, more importantly, my own mind. It was the beginning of a very fundamental transformation of how I perceive life, how I become aware of what’s happening my mind and body, and how I choose to express myself. When I compare myself now to how I was in 2006, the difference it night and day. I wanted everyone else to experience the same transformation, so I got trained and certified to teach the Happiness Program in 2009.

Here’s how it happened…

Just before I learned to meditate, I had gone through an unpleasant break-up.

The memories of the break-up kept playing in my mind like a broken record. Emotions of sadness, anger, and guilt were constantly haunting me. I had a hard time focusing on my job. I knew I needed to make a change.

I was fortunate to get introduced to meditation a few months later, and almost instantly I started to see a shift and noticed a sense of calmness around my chattering mind.

The memories of the break-up didn’t go away but …

After practicing the meditation and breathing techniques for a few months what I noticed is that the unpleasant emotions associated with the break-up started to fade away.

The memories of the break-up didn’t bring back those emotions that were bothering me. That’s when I realized that I was free from the past, and real freedom is being free from the past. It gave me a taste of what it is to live life in the moment. I had heard about it, but it became my personal experience.

The memories of the break-up didn’t go away but

And that’s when I knew I was onto something…

Once I realized the value, I was disciplined to keep up with my daily meditation practice. I went to longer meditation retreats 2 to 3 times a year.

Even with the disciplined practice, I noticed that it was easy to slip away from living in the now. I need something to keep reminding myself of staying present. And that’s when I decided to teach this wisdom and techniques.

In 2009, I got trained and certified as a teacher at the Art of Living Center in Washington D.C. I started teaching. Each time I taught I got a deeper understanding of my mind and its dysfunctions.

While the participants of the course benefited from my teaching, I needed it just as much. Their lives started to become more joyful and peaceful, and it was inspiring to see the start of beautiful transformation within them. The transformation happened in them and in me. It was a win-win situation.

And of course, there are a lot of things that have changed in my life since I started practicing meditation.

Now I have much more say over my emotions and I respond to situations rather than react to them. My confidence and self-esteem aren’t shaken easily like before. Even though I am an introvert, I feel comfortable talking to a large audience without having any butterflies in my stomach. Even after a long day of work, I have enough energy to work on things I’m passionate about in the evenings and spend quality time with my family. Today, I live in Boston, Massachusetts with my wife Vivian.

All of this was possible because I decided it was time to not allow my emotions and thoughts to run my life.

And now, it’s my goal to help people to create a life that’s not just free from stress and negative emotions, but filled with joy, love and enthusiasm.

It could happen to you, too.

It could happen to you, too.

I’m no different from you. Though we may be from different cultures and backgrounds, the emotions we go through and the tendency of our mind to be stuck in the past or worry about the future is the same.

But I made it a point to have a deeper understanding of the human mind and be disciplined about keeping up with my meditation practices, and that gave me the freedom I desired. And I’ve helped a lot of people achieve this same goal.

So, if you would like to learn how you can handle your negative emotions and live a happy contented life, then
